Extra-Curricular Activities
Westminster Academy offers a variety of engaging extra-curricular activities (ECA). Our clubs and activities help students to develop friendships, consolidate learning, gain new skills and increase confidence. Many of our clubs take place at lunchtime to allow students to socialise with their friends and meet like-minded students during the school day.
ECA Programme
You can find an example of our ECA programme - available to download - at the bottom of this page. Clubs are reviewed on a termly basis. To complement the programme, in 2024-2025 Westminster Academy is excited to be trialling an elective at Key Stage 3, which allows students to choose one of their timetabled subjects from a list of extra and super-curricular activities with a focus on the arts and wellbeing. This provides students with engaging opportunities to explore different interests and talents and develop soft skills in a structured and supportive environment.
The arts
Our talented Expressive Arts students have opportunities to perform several times a year. This has included summer musicals such as We Will Rock You and Hairspray, and our virtual performances during the pandemic! Lunchtime and after school ECA include arts and crafts, dance and choir. We were proud to receive the Music Mark for 2021-2022 for the value we place on music provision.
Exploring academic curiosity
Clubs such as STEM Club and History Club aim to inspire academic curiosity and a love of learning. Debate Club and Model United Nations (MUN) encourage students to express themselves confidently and understand the value of considering a diverse range of opinions. There are lots of other activities, like Creative Writing, Coding and UK Maths Trust (UKMT) competitions to offer something for everyone.
Shared interests
Our popular games and chess clubs give students the opportunity to problem-solve and socialise in a fun, relaxed environment. Most clubs are open to all year groups which allows students to mix with a variety of people with similar interests. Our weekly Pride Club offers students a space to discuss LGBTQ+ issues and promote inclusion.
