WA becomes a Music Mark School

Music Mark logo school right RGBWe are proud to announce that Westminster Academy has been nominated by the Tri-borough Music Hub to become a Music Mark school for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Music Mark is the UK Association for Music Education, championing and supporting access to music for all children and young people. It works to support and enable the music education sector to deliver high-quality musical and social outcomes for all children and young people, and as such it supports schools like WA with resources and training opportunities.

Families who have older students at WA will know that four years ago we adjusted the curriculum and timetabling to move away from a termly carousel in Expressive Arts and instead ensure that all Expressive Arts subjects are offered once a week, in recognition of the value of creative subjects. This has allowed the Music department to develop a rich curriculum offering for all key stage 3 students that covers elements of music and melody, music from different cultures and even song writing. Students then have the option to take BTEC Music at key stage 4, which is an exciting practical course that introduces students to composition and various elements of the music industry. As always at WA, this curriculum is supplemented by as many extra-curricular opportunities as possible.

The Tri-borough Music Hub said, “We have recognised your commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum and the value that you place on music, and as a result, we would like to celebrate it by nominating your school to become part of the Music Mark community.”

Congratulations to our Music teachers, Mr Moore and Ms Tsoi! We look forward to hearing more from WA’s talented music students throughout the course of the year.
