Back to NewsValuable support for Sixth Formers via 1:1 careers meetings
Sixth Form students were recently offered a one to one careers session with Careers People to support them with applying for apprenticeships.
As a Year 12 student struggling to understand how to create an excellent CV and make the right connections for degree apprenticeships, I was surprised that a one hour session was able to help me so much. The careers adviser took her time to go over my CV and correct my mistakes, which helped me greatly. I now understand how my CV should look and what competitive degree apprenticeship programmes are looking for. She also gave me valuable insight into how to actually apply for apprenticeships, which boosted my confidence in applying.
During the session, the careers advisor was very respectful and polite, which gave me a sense of pride as it made me feel like I was being treated as a true adult. This allowed me to feel comfortable when asking questions, even ones I would normally feel hesitant to ask. Regardless of how many questions I had, she made sure to help me understand areas I was unsure about, such as a recent job rejection. She did this through a step by step process on how I can improve next time I apply to a part-time job. Overall, it was a great, insightful experience, and I gained a great deal of knowledge regarding apprenticeships, CVs and cover letters.
