Back to NewsStudents raise over £100 for LGBTQ+ charities
The Bake Sale for LGBT+ History Month was a huge success! We particularly enjoyed preparing for the bake sale, as it allowed the students from Pride Club to plan together, making posters and pride bunting with Ms Langsworthy in Art Club. It also engaged people from outside of Pride Club, such as the Year 9 and Year 10 GCSE Food students who baked and decorated rainbow cupcakes with Mr Jaber, and sparked particularly lively discussion in TTB later in the day.
We raised money for three important charities:
1) Switchboard (an LGBT+ helpline for mental health and advice): £38.42
2) Hidayah (for Muslim LGBT+ people): £36.37
3) Mermaids (for young trans people): £25.40
Total: £100.19
Each charity had individual collection jars, so students engaged in conversation about the themes before deciding where to donate their coins. Thank you to all students and staff for your donations and thanks to all the fantastic bakers.
