Back to NewsA journey with Greenhouse Sports Basketball - from Year 7 to Year 11
Since joining Greenhouse Sports in Year 7, the programme has been a major part of my secondary school journey. Over the past five years, it has helped me grow in ways that go far beyond basketball, developing my confidence, resilience, friendships, and mindset both on and off the court.
One of the most memorable opportunities I received through Greenhouse Sports was being selected to attend a residential basketball programme at a university in Worcester. I was fortunate enough to be offered this opportunity twice. During the week-long experience, we stayed on campus, trained on high quality basketball courts, and took part in activities that pushed us outside of our comfort zones. We also had the chance to meet and compete with a team from Valencia, Spain, which was an unforgettable experience and gave me exposure to different cultures and styles of basketball.
These opportunities helped me become more independent, mature, and confident. Being away from home, meeting new people, and representing my school and Greenhouse Sports taught me responsibility and strengthened my belief in what I can achieve when I work hard.
Socially, Greenhouse Sports has allowed me to build lasting friendships and connect with people from different backgrounds. Through basketball, I have learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and supporting others. The relationships I have built over the years are something I will always value.
Throughout my time with Greenhouse Sports, I have had the opportunity to compete against a range of different schools and teams. Representing my school in these competitions taught me the importance of teamwork, commitment, and handling pressure. Every game was a chance to learn, improve, and grow both as a player and as a person.
Emotionally, sport has taught me how to deal with challenges and setbacks. Basketball is a game of highs and lows, and Greenhouse Sports has helped me develop resilience, self-discipline, and the ability to stay focused under pressure. These are skills that have helped me not only in sport but also in school and everyday life.
While I have always been active and enjoyed sport, Greenhouse Sports gave me opportunities to develop as a basketball player and challenge myself in new environments. From representing the programme to attending residential camps and playing against teams from different backgrounds, I gained experiences that improved my skills, confidence, and understanding of the game.
Looking back on my journey from Year 7 to Year 11, I am incredibly grateful for everything Greenhouse Sports has given me. The coaches have always believed in me, supported me, and encouraged me to be the best version of myself. The opportunities, experiences, and lessons I have gained over the last five years have had a lasting impact on my life, and I am proud to have been part of the programme.
Thank you, Greenhouse Sports, and thank you Coach, for helping me grow as both a player and a person. The memories, friendships, and experiences I have gained will stay with me long after I leave school.
