Joy and relief as Westminster Academy students secure top GCSE grades

Westminster Academy (WA) students are reaping the rewards of five years of hard work as they collect their GCSE results today.

WA EB J IMG 1946The school was excited to celebrate a host of top grades, including 14% of students achieving a grade 7 or higher in English and Maths. Seven students achieved an impressive average grade of 8 or higher. The school was proud to see students achieve highly across an array of subjects. Top grades (7+) were achieved by 60% of students in Physics, 43% in RS, 38% in Art and 25% in Spanish.

Among the students celebrating was David, who achieved two 9s, six 8s, two 7s and one 6. Happy with his impressive grades, he will now be embarking on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the Sixth Form at WA, saying, “I’m looking forward to the challenge.” Of the six subjects he will study at IBDP, he has chosen Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at higher level, with his future career in mind. “I want to get into Medicine, particularly because of my mum, who works in this field. I look up to her.”

WA D IMG 1911eJoining David on the IBDP will be Nadia, who had kind words for her teachers who were here to congratulate students today, “The teachers here care about our grades a lot.” She also offered some advice for students about to start their exam year: “Work hard from the beginning. It’s just one year; you’ll be happy with the results.” Likewise, Ayah reflected on the support that she had received saying, “I’ve made such great friends here. And a lot of the teachers I’ve met are some of the loveliest people I know.” The school now looks forward to continuing its journey with many of these students in the Sixth Form.

It is a special year for Westminster Academy, as next month sees the start of its 20th anniversary year. During those 20 years, GCSE outcomes have more than tripled, and the school’s outstanding International Baccalaureate (IB) Sixth Form has consistently achieved world class results, with more and more students taking advantage of its IB Diploma and Career-related programmes. WA TM IMG 1904

We now look forward to seeing where the experiences and opportunities our Class of 2026 have gained at Westminster Academy will take them in the years ahead.” Mrs Anwar thanked the hard-working staff body, trustees, sponsors, students’ families and the many volunteers and supporters in the community and business world who have given invaluable support to the education of the Class of 2026.
