IB Director General and Governors visit WA

WA is very proud to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.  On Thursday, we were visited by the Board of Governors of the IB, the IB's Director General and the IB World Schools Senior Manager.  The individuals in the group are based around the world and only come together occasionally for in-person meetings so it is very rare for schools to experience such a high level IB visit.

The IB visitors toured the school and heard from some of our IB Diploma Programme (DP)  and IB Career-Related (CP) students about their experiences.  WA Trustees, Principal Paul Wood and WA staff members had wide ranging discussion of the future of the DP and CP in the UK, the future of sixth form education in the UK, generally, and the role of WA in the local community.

It was rewarding to hear from some of our IB students about their experiences before and during their IB studies.  It was also rewarding to see how much our visitors appreciated visiting an IB school that is so committed to serving the local community. The IB‘s Director General wrote afterwards:

"Thank you for giving the International Baccalaureate Board of Governors the opportunity to hear the history, ethos and commitment of Westminster Academy. It is such a powerful story of community building and providing access to quality education. The students were the best ambassadors for the school, and being evidence of the results the school is able to reach. We were truly impressed!"

The IB World Schools Senior Manager wrote:

“We celebrate the amazing work done by the leadership team, the school founders and governors and teachers for developing such confident and inspiring CP and DP students we met. We thank you for your hospitality.”
