Westminster Academy is today celebrating an excellent set of BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma results, following outstanding International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP) results earlier this summer.

Once again the cohort achieved a 100% pass rate in the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma, with an average grade of D*DD. Four students achieved the top possible result of D*D*D*, while a phenomenal 85% of students achieved a grade of Distinction or above - an outcome achieved by fewer than 35% of students nationally.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma is a component of the IB Career-Related Programme, for which students also study at least two IB academic subjects (English and Maths) and the IB Core - which includes modern foreign languages. The school is celebrating an 88% pass rate in the IBCP, alongside impressive individual attainment.

Among this year’s high attainers was Samaya, who achieved the top possible grade of D*D*D* in her Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Business, plus a grade 7 in IB Maths and a 6 in English - the highest ever scores of an IBCP student at WA. Samaya said this accolade came as a surprise, attributing her performance to the determination she showed after disappointing mock exam results. She said, “After my mock exams I worked really hard, and had to be very organised.” 

These exceptional Level 3 outcomes have resulted in exceptional progression for WA students. Confirmed destinations for its IBCP students include UCL, King’s College, Nottingham, Queen Mary and Brunel for highly competitive courses that include Applied Medical Science, Biomedical Science, Midwifery, Radiography, Chiropractic, Architecture, International Relations, Law, Accountancy and Project Management.

In July, Westminster Academy also celebrated fantastic IB Diploma Programme results. Students again surpassed the world average score this year, achieving an average score of 33 out of 45 points, compared to a global average of 30.9 points. Three students achieved an exceptional 40 or more points. The breadth of pathways is equally impressive, and includes Trinity College Dublin, Yale (USA), UCL, King’s College London, Nottingham, Bristol, St Andrews, Exeter, Reading, Birmingham and Warwick, as well as continued successful progression to Degree Level Apprenticeships. Students will study a diverse range of courses, from Law and Engineering to Modern Languages and Nursing, reflecting the opportunity created by WA’s IB programmes.
