Back to NewsMemorable night at the O2 as WA attends Super League Basketball
Westminster Academy students were part of history as the London Lions put the perfect stamp on their Super League Basketball (SLB) campaign, sealing a domestic quadruple with a Play-Off Final victory over the Cheshire Phoenix at the O2 Arena on Sunday, 17th May 2026.
London Lions 104–81 Cheshire Phoenix
To be honest, it was the best trip I have ever had. All my friends from basketball were there, and although some people think boys and girls don’t mix well, I believe this trip completely broke that misconception.
It was an amazing experience and truly inspired me to push myself further and aim for higher limits. The game between the Lions and Phoenix was not only exciting on the court but also entertaining throughout, with lots to see, like the kiss cam, light show, and performances between the quarters.
At half-time, my friends and I took pictures next to a height-measuring display, which made us laugh so much — especially when one of the boys joked about being “7’8” to match the tallest player shown.
Even the journey back was special. The jokes we shared and the memories we created made the experience even more meaningful. Watching how the Lions demonstrated teamwork, communication, and effective warm-ups really showed us how these elements contribute to success in the game — and seeing them win made it even better.
I would like to thank Coach Dodi for organising this trip and for inspiring me personally.
